Issaka GARBA ABDOU (Mr.) is currently the Head of Governance and Human Rights Division, within the Directorate for Governance and Conflict Prevention - Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union Commission. He is in this position Since May 2021. Prior to his current position Mr. Issaka served from September 2015 to May 2021 as Senior Political Officer for Public Service and Anti-Corruption and Coordinator of the Secretariat of the African Union Policy Organ known as Specialized Technical Committee on Public Service, Local Governance and development, Urban Development and Decentralization (AU-STC n°8) . He directed the development of The Common African Position on Habitat III and the Regional Framework on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda developed jointly with UNECA and UN-Habitat. He is also a member of the African Union Working Group on Asset Recovery and Return.
