Senior Human Rights Advisor

Sara Ferro Ribeiro is the Senior Human Rights Advisor for IOM-UN Migration, where she leads on policy and programming on human rights due diligence and responding to grave violations of human rights. Sara is an international human rights and protection expert with 20 years experience shaping policy and leading programming on HRDD, protection, conflict related sexual violence, and the integration of human rights into peacebuilding and migration governance.

Prior to her current work, Sara held country-based and senior roles supporting the documentation of human rights violations, the development of human rights-based approaches to migration and displacement, and the design of protection strategies in complex crises, including Lebanon, the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Timor-Leste, Haiti, Libya, Bangladesh, and Syria with the United Nations, international NGOs, and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. She co-authored the International Protocol on the Documentation and Investigation of Sexual Violence in Conflict and has written and published on human rights, protection, gender, and feminist foreign policy in refugee and IDP settings.

Sara holds a Masters in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School, an Msc in European Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Masters in English Literature from Oxford University.
