Abdy Yeganeh is the Policy Director at Independent Diplomat where he oversees the organisation’s overall programme and the Conflict Resolution pillar. Abdy has 24 years of professional foreign policy, defence and international security experience with 14 years working for the British Government (Foreign Office and Ministry of Defence) and 10 years at Independent Diplomat. While working for the U.K. Government, Abdy was posted on the ground in conflict zones (Afghanistan 2006 and 2011, Iraq 2004), leading member of major crisis responses from London (Iraq 2003, Kosovo 2008, Libya 2011) and led the Syria multilateral team at the Foreign Office from 2013 where he was a lead negotiator in the political process, including leading direct negotiations at the UN Security Council. Part of his career at the British Government Abdy led on Counter-Terrorism policy against AQ core leadership in Pakistan and AQAP in Yemen. His counter terrorism work and experience was part of the role Abdy was leading in Helmand, Afghanistan under the auspices of the ISAF-led campaign. At Independent Diplomat Abdy started first as the Brussels Director leading on engagements with the EU, before an expanded role across Europe, and was promoted to the Policy Director in 2021.
