Franco-Syrian committed to truth and justice, Obeida Dabbagh lives in France with his wife Hanane. He became one of the main plaintiffs in the historic trial in France against senior Syrian officials charged with crimes against humanity. This case, known as the Dabbagh Trial, originated after the enforced disappearance of his brother Mazen Dabbagh, senior education advisor at the French school in Damascus, and his nephew Patrick Abdel Kader Dabbagh, a psychology student, who were arrested in November 2013 by the Syrian Air Force Intelligence.
Since 2015, Obeida Dabbagh has engaged in a determined judicial battle in collaboration with leading international human rights organizations. His testimony and efforts have helped document not only the abduction and death of his loved ones—formally confirmed by death certificates received in 2018—but also the systematic practices of torture, enforced disappearance, and expropriation carried out by the Syrian regime.
Through his journey, Obeida Dabbagh embodies the power of memory and resilience in the face of impunity. His participation in Peace Week reflects his commitment to transforming personal tragedy into a universal call for dignity, justice, and peace.
