What does it mean to forgive without forgetting? How is peace nurtured long after the signing of agreements?
We Forgive but We Don’t Forget, co-directed by Swiss filmmaker Daniela Wildi and Cambodian filmmaker Rotha Suong, offers a moving portrait of Cambodia more than three decades after the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements. The documentary highlights the local, everyday, and often unseen efforts of monks, genocide survivors, artists, educators, and community leaders who continue to rebuild lives and relationships in the aftermath of violence.
Rather than portraying peace as a final achievement, the film reveals it as a fragile, ongoing practice. It invites viewers to confront the burden of memory, witness the resilience of communities, and recognize the courage needed to make space for reconciliation.
This world premiere, part of the Geneva Peace Week 2025 programme, will be followed by a conversation with the filmmakers, providing a unique opportunity to reflect on the universal challenges of healing after conflict.
Join us for an evening that reminds us that peace is not only negotiated at the table, but lived in the daily acts of courage, remembrance, and care.
