In contemporary conflict settings, the lines between humanitarian negotiation, diplomatic engagement, and formal peace processes are increasingly blurred. Field negotiations for access and protection, which are very often led by local humanitarian actors in high-risk environments, inform – and in turn, are informed by – higher-level political, diplomatic, and peacebuilding dynamics. Yet, these spheres of engagement often remain siloed, limiting the coherence and long-term impact of dialogue initiatives.
Through the use of strategic tools, simulations and peer reflections, this interactive workshop will explore how humanitarian negotiation intersects with diplomatic engagement and formal peace processes. Drawing from practitioner experience, the discussion will reflect on how strategic alignment across levels, from field-based negotiation to multilateral diplomacy, can contribute to sustainable peace.
