The third edition

Building on the success of the first two editions in New York (2023) and Addis Ababa (2025), Geneva Peace Week meets Vienna will bring the global peacebuilding community to Vienna for a one-day event on 3 June 2026. This third edition of the Geneva Peace Week meets series, it offers an opportunity to bridge dialogues between international and regional peace actors, spotlight emerging challenges and opportunities for sustainable peace, and strengthen collaboration across multilateral hubs. Hosted at the Hyatt Hotel and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the event will convene policymakers, practitioners, and thought leaders to exchange insights and co-create solutions that advance peacebuilding efforts in Europe and beyond, continuing the spirit of partnership and innovation demonstrated in New York and Addis Ababa.

Co-organisers

A project of the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform (GPP)—the premier platform for the convening and coordination of peacebuilding actors in Geneva, the event will be co-organized with the Austrian Institute for International Affairs (OIIP)—Austria’s leading think tank on international affairs, in coordination with and with the support of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Swiss Permanent Missions in Geneva and Vienna.

Thematic Focus

Discussions will focus on areas where Geneva and Vienna show strong synergies and greatest potential for cooperation and will be based on proposals formulated by key stakeholders in Geneva and Vienna and curated by the co-organizers.

In addition to the overarching theme on the complementarity of peace and security, two indicative thematic axes will include:

  • Peace, tech, and security, i.e. the role of technological innovations in the prevention, management, or resolution of conflicts, and the mitigation of technology-driven security risks.
  • Mediation and dialogue, i.e. the role of formal or informal initiatives to prevent, manage, or resolve conflict through direct or indirect engagement with parties, confidence-building, and inclusive dialogue, as well as current challenges and opportunities in this respect.

Format & Structure

  • 1 Closed‑door diplomatic breakfast discussion
  • 1 High‑level public opening plenary
  • 4 thematic public panels or closed-door roundtables
  • 1 Closing public plenary
  • Multiple informal networking opportunities (lunch, coffee breaks, closing reception)

Audience and Participants

Mobilizing partners from Geneva and Vienna who will collaborate to organize thematic discussions, the event will primarily target Vienna-based organizations and experts active in all areas relevant to peacebuilding, with an emphasis on the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe—chaired, in 2026, by Switzerland. It will also target representatives of States and the general public.

Outcomes & Follow‑Up

This event will feed into:

  • A convening initiative during UN‑led Peacebuilding Week in New York (June 2026)
  • A follow‑up discussion at the 2026 Geneva Peace Week
  • A summary report on synergies and complementarities between Geneva and Vienna
